Panasonic is a Japanese electric products maker with international presence world-over. It was formerly called Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd. Panasonic sells plasma, LCD, DVD players and recorders, Blu-Ray players, projectors, camcorders, mobiles, vacuum cleaners and a other electronic components and semi-conductors. Panasonic markets all their products under their famous tagline - 'Ideas for Life'.

The brand name was officially changed from Matsushita to Panasonic Corporation in 2008. The brand name Panasonic was finalized in year 1995 when the company couldn’t get the 'National' brand name in America as someone else held the trademark on it. In the word Panasonic, 'pan' means 'all', and 'sonic' means 'sound'. The Panasonic brand name was initially used to market audio equipments.

Panasonic was the largest Japanese electronics manufacturer in 2004 based on annual turnover. In the 'white goods' category of appliances Panasonic is world's largest company. Panasonic Mobile Communications produces mobile phones and similar devices for the Japanese market. Panasonic was the second largest mobile phone maker in Japan after Sharp.
